Foot in Mouth Disease?

Don Imus is trying to pull his “foot from his mouth” again on June 24.

This time he’s not apologizing.

As ABC’s Linsey Davis reports, Imus says his latest racial remark is being unfairly turned against him.

It’s deja vu for Don Imus, who’s under fire after sports talk, one again, turned to race.

“You’re not going to get me for this, this is ridiculous,” stated Imus.

It started out as a discussion about why NFL player Adam Jones dropped his nickname. A co-host told Imus Jones had been arrested six times since being drafted by Tennessee.

Imus: “What color is he?”

Wolf: “He’s African-American.”

Imus: “Well, there you go. Now we know.”

And now, Imus is defending himself again.

Last year, his comments about the Rutgers’ women’s basketball team got him fired.

“You think he’d be more careful now. I’m just really amazed that he would be so sloppy with his language or at least not explaining what he means whenever he brings up the topic of race,” said Clarence Page.

In the previous basketball controversy, Imus apologized, but he says this reference to the football player’s race was actually meant to tackle a larger issue.

“Well, obviously I already knew what color he was, the point was, in order to make a sarcastic point, I asked Warner what color he was,” said Imus.

What people should be outraged about is they arrest blacks for no reason,” he added.

A spokesperson for Citadel Broadcasting said disciplinary action against Imus is unlikely.

Good; this is a non-issue. Leave the poor guy alone and let him entertain people.

A Legend Gone

The decay and disintegration of this culture is astonishingly amusing if you’re emotionally detached from it, and I’ve always viewed it from a safe distance, knowing I don’t belong. Doesn’t include me; it never has. No matter how you care to define it, I do not identify with the local group, planet, species, race, nation, state, religion, party, union, club, association, neighborhood improvement commitee. I have no interest in any of it. I love and treasure individuals as I meet them; I loathe and despise the groups they identify with and belong to. My interest in issues is merely to point out how badly we’re doing, not to suggest a way we might do better. Don’t confuse me with those who cling to hope; I enjoy describing how things are. I have no interest in how they ought to be, and I certainly have no interest in fixing them. I sincerely believe that if you think there’s a solution, you’re part of the problem. My motto: Fuck Hope!” — George Carlin, 1937-2008
